For many families, accommodation is the biggest decision after flights and tickets. An Orlando villa and a Disney hotel offer completely different holidays, so the best choice depends on more than the nightly price.
We have stayed in villas across Kissimmee, Davenport and Clermont, as well as Disney hotels. This is how we would compare the true cost for a UK family.
When a villa is usually better value
A villa often works well for larger families and longer stays. You may get several bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities and a private pool for less than the cost of booking several hotel rooms.
Being able to make breakfast, store drinks and cook simple meals can also reduce food spending. For a two or three-week trip, having a washing machine means you may be able to pack less.
Villa costs people forget
- Cleaning and booking fees
- Pool or spa heating
- Security deposits
- Car hire, fuel, tolls and parking
- Resort access or parking passes
Ask for a full quote before comparing it with a hotel. We also ask owners whether there is a better direct-booking price.
When a Disney hotel can be worth paying more
A Disney hotel can make park days easier. You are inside the Disney area, transport is available to the parks and you avoid driving after a long day.
The value is strongest when you plan to spend most of the holiday at Walt Disney World. If you are visiting Universal, shopping, eating off site and exploring beyond the parks, the location may be less useful.
Disney hotel costs to check
- The complete room price including taxes
- Food and drink costs without a full kitchen
- Transport needed for non-Disney days
- Whether you need more than one room
Example decision for a family of four
For two adults and two children spending seven nights mainly at Disney, a hotel can be convenient enough to justify the premium. For a family staying fourteen nights, hiring a car and visiting several parts of Orlando, a villa often provides more space and flexibility.
For a larger family needing two hotel rooms, compare the combined hotel cost against one villa. That is where a villa can become significantly better value.
Our honest choice
We prefer a villa for most Orlando holidays because we enjoy the space, kitchen and private pool. On a longer trip, we sometimes add a shorter Disney hotel stay to get the benefits of both.
If this is your first trip, the Four Corners area of Kissimmee is a useful place to start. It gives you access to restaurants and shops along US 192 while keeping you close to Disney.

Questions to ask before choosing
- How many proper bedrooms and bathrooms do we need?
- Will we hire a car?
- How many Disney park days are planned?
- Will we cook or eat out most days?
- Do we want a private pool and quiet rest days?
- What is the complete price after every fee?
There is no single winner. Compare the whole holiday, not just the room rate.
